In the omnichannel space, optimizing cross sell and second basket opportunities have become key growth areas for retailers we work with. We conducted a study focusing on multiple points during the shopper journey where cross- and up-sell products might be offered and found multiple points of optimization that led to higher basket size and conversion rate in addition to overall shopper satisfaction with the site as a whole.

After an exhaustive design process, a final pricing study with open ended feedback questions uncovered an interesting opportunity—would increasing appetite appeal help this brand over the top, or should they stick close to their “roots”? We engineered a quick-turn study to answer that question and the resulting consumer feedback helped BAM feel confident their origin- and attribute-forward design was indeed the right way to go for this fresh, regenerative organic product line.

What do my consumers think about Ultra Processed Foods?

Keeping pace with rapidly changing consumer sentiment is challenging, especially knowing how much that sentiment will affect purchase behavior. We conducted a study in multiple categories to understand how consumers feel about Ultra Processed Foods, then introduced a hypothetical “clean label” big brand product, and watched as that potential disruptor changed the entire category.

How can we develop, refine and quantify our new innovation with consumers before it’s real?

Working with innovation teams and incubators is a sweet spot for Pivot, because that’s where it was developed. We created this product from concept through a fictitious e:commerce launch, co-creating with consumers at every stage. The final measurement was a simulated D2C website where the brand story could be presented, potential sales tracked and the entire shopper journey mapped, all before the first prototype was created.
